Meet the Makers

HANDS-ON WITH LOCAL CIGAR MAKER

Though there are many cigar makers in the area, few are masters - a title reserved only for an individual who has been through years of training and can make cigars in every length, shape and style.

Wallace Reyes

Last year, he spearheaded the assembly of the world's longest cigar, a 101 feet long stogie recognized by Guinness World Records. Wallace Reyes broke the record to commemorate the 85th anniversary of his Gonzalez Habano Cigar Company and to breathe life in to a craft he fears will "share the fate of the dinosaurs." A master and historian, Wallace is dedicated to preserving both the art of cigar making and its story. The figurado, a cigar that is thin at each end and thick in the middle, resembles the spoke of a wagon whell - a stogie. This shape is Wallace's favorite to create because, the Guinness Record holder says,"it's a challege." A true factory, every-thing the Gonzalez Habano Cigar Co., sells is made by hands in the shop.
